Drivers’ hour’s rules are in place for drivers working conditions, road safety and to prevent unfair competition.
This unit is concerned with the reasons why drivers’ hours have been devised and how driver’s hours are recorded and monitored. By the end of this unit, candidates will be able to ensure that they are using a Tachograph correctly and understand its workings. Candidates unfamiliar with digital Tachographs will have an introduction into this modern form of record keeping.

The course objectives are to recognise issues relating to:
• Domestic hours rules
• EC Tachograph Regulations 3821/85-3820/ 85 as amended
• 561/2006 Digital Tachograph requirements
• Road Transport Directive And Working Time Directive

Learning Outcomes: |

The candidate by the end of this course will be able to:
• Understand and evaluate the reasons for the implementation of driver’s hours and establish where they are devised.
• Understand the fitment requirements for Tachograph units and the actions to be taken in the event of a malfunction
• Identify in detail the correct use of an automatic Tachograph
• Identify the correct care and control procedures of Tachograph charts
• Show an understanding of how to effectively work with all the relevant driver’s hours issues on a daily basis
• Explain the potential penalties in place for infringing the regulations
• Demonstrate an understanding of The Working Time Directive
